Porter is our enthusiast 3 year old black Lab.  He loves to run and swim.  He especially loves playing with his sister Marlo, a miniature Labradoodle.  However, Porter suffers from a recently discovered condition called Exercise Induced Collapse (EIC; http://tinyurl.com/2r6gfo).   Dogs (mostly Labs and other field dogs) suffering from this condition can quickly spike a temperature when they exercise hard, then lose muscle control and collapse; some have died.  Scientists at the University of Minnesota have recently isolated the gene that causes EIC and they hope to have a test for it on the market soon. 

Fortunately for us, Porter also loves swimming, which keeps him cool.  Dock Dogs has been a fabulous find – it’s the perfect activity to keep him the “Cool Guy” he is in our hearts.  When he can’t go swimming, we take him to the park in the cool morning hours and wet him down after he plays.  Also fortunately for us, Marlo prefers a Frisbee while Porter prefers a ball: This makes it easier to exercise the two of them together.  And while Marlo loves the water too, she prefers wading to swimming - must be the Poodle in her J
