Dockdogs Names: Molson
Molson was found on the side of the road on Vancouver Island, B.C. in the summer of 2003 by me and my buddies when we were out driving. He was completely emaciated and infested with sarcoptic mange and had no hair and was barely alive and sleeping under a tree. I took him to the nearest vet to have him euthanized but they decided to give him an IV drip and “see how he does”. I left and told them to call me if he came around. They called me the following morning and said “he’s doing great! He’s up and walking around!” and I said “well, looks like I have a dog then.” I got him neutered and vaccinated and took him to my friend’s house where I was staying at the time and my friend and I were sitting around and he walked to the fridge and said “Kay do you want a Molson?” and the dog came running and I figured that was his name because he didn’t respond to anything else (even Wilson, Milson, Simon, etc.). He’s been my best friend ever since. Once he got healthy, we did obedience and agility competitions for a few years until we heard about dockdogs and decided to try it at a “Splash Dogs” event in Southern California (where we were living at the time). He jumped 12’ his first jump ever and 17’6” the one after that and the rest is history.
Molson's Accomplishments: Senior Dockdog as of last summer (2006)
Goals: I want Molson to do the best he can and I want to do the best I can to facilitate him in that goal. I think he can jump as far as he puts his mind. I would like to break through into Masters this summer.
Fun Facts: Molson is a good boy. NOW. As a youngster, he destroyed 2 spa covers, 2 backyards (via digging gigantic holes), one couch, numerous towels and a feather comforter before I realized that crating a dog is a GOOD idea. He ran away last November after a deer jumped in front of him while we were out walking (that deer was just too close to resist)—he was gone for 4 days and came back really mangled up and had to be in casts for a month. He’s much better now. He’s decided that deer are not fun. I don’t see him running off ever again. For the most part, Molson’s a pretty laid-back guy but he’s been known to chase his tail and jump out of 6’ fences when I’m gone. His favorite food is cream cheese.
